AU hunt seat team rides at Lehman Farms for pair of weekend shows

PITTSFORD, NY — The Alfred University hunt seat equestrian team competed in a pair of season-opening shows Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27, at Lehman Farms, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.

Alfred took third place in the show on Saturday and sixth on Sunday, as two Saxon riders qualified for regional competition next March.

Sophomores Haley Argersinger (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore), in advanced walk-trot-canter; Brittany Green (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley), in novice equitation on the flat; Stephanie Zimicki (Lockport, NY/St. Mary’s), in novice equitation over fences; and Jolene Lathrop (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), in beginner walk-trot-canter; and freshman Jessica Pierce (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville), in novice equitation over fences, all took first-place ribbons for the Saxons.

Green, who also took third in novice equitation over fences, and Zimicki, who also took second in intermediate equitation on the flat, each qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone II, Region I championships, March 8 at the Alfred University Equestrian Center.

Other top riders for AU in Saturday’s show were: freshman Gabe Covert (Perry, NY/Perry), third in beginner walk-trot-canter; junior Alexandra Gerbec (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East), third in advanced walk-trot-canter; senior Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield), second in advanced walk-trot-canter; senior Christina Watts (Barryville, NY/Eldred), third in beginner walk-trot-canter; senior Stephanie Mistark (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), second in walk-trot; and freshman Alicia Mayville (Canastota, NY/Canastota), second in novice equitation on the flat.

Earning wins for AU in Sunday show were: senior Annie Bailey (Waynesburg, PA/Waynesburg) and sophomore Kassandra McCarn (Gouverneur, NY/Gouverneur), in advanced walk-trot-canter; and Pierce in novice equitation over fences.

Other top AU riders Sunday were: senior Eileen Cody (Hamburg, NY/Nardin Academy) and Gerbec, third in advanced walk-trot-canter; junior Olivia Costich (Penfield, NY/Harley School), third in open equitation over fences; Covert, second in beginner walk-trot-canter; freshman Jessica Lewis (Clarence, NY/Clarence), second in advanced walk-trot-canter; junior Avery Sandler (Israel/Atidim Hamich Lamin), third in intermediate equitation on the flat; and junior Staci Zerphey (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Twp.), third in walk-trot.

The AU hunt seat team is in action next on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 10, at Lehman Farms, hosted by Nazareth College.
