Alfred University’s Ferguson earns women’s tennis all-conference honors

ALFRED, NY — Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline), a junior on the Alfred University women’s tennis team, has earned all-conference recognition from the Empire 8.

The Empire 8 announced its 2013 women’s tennis all-conference teams today and Ferguson was given honorable mention for singles play. Ferguson, who was Alfred’s first singles player, had a 4-7 mark in first singles and was 1-0 in second singles. She posted a 2-5 mark in first singles in conference play.

This marks the second time Ferguson has earned all-Empire 8 honors. As a sophomore in 2012, she and teammate Emma Jackson (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) earned honorable mention in doubles.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Senior Bethany Dickerson (Alma, NY/Wellsville) is Alfred’s honoree from the women’s tennis team.
