Three Saxons earn Empire 8 men’s soccer all-conference honors

ALFRED, NY — Three members of the Alfred University men’s soccer team have earned all-conference recognition from the Empire 8.

The Empire 8 announced its all-conference teams today. AU freshman midfielder Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/Sullivan West) was named to the Second Team and a pair of Saxon defenders – freshman Graeme Corrigan (Troy, NY/Troy) and sophomore Nicholas Poindexter (Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, NY/Cornwall) – were given honorable mention.

Lander started all 17 games for the Saxons and led the team in points with 11 on two goals and a team-leading seven assists. Corrigan also started all 17 games on defense and had a goal and an assist. He was named to the all-tournament team at the season-opening SUNY Oswego Tournament. Poindexter played in 15 games, starting 12, and netted one goal.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Senior goalkeeper Jacob Bird (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) is Alfred’s honoree from the men’s soccer team.
