AU hunt seat riders shine at Lehman Farms

PITTSFORD, NY — The Alfred University hunt seat equestrian team competed in a pair of shows Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 10, at Lehman Farms, hosted by Nazareth College.

Alfred took first place in the show on Saturday and tied for second on Sunday, as three Saxon riders qualified for Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone II, Region I championships next March. AU also moved into second place in the IHSA Zone II Region I team standings.

Earning first-place ribbons for the Saxons in Saturday’s show were: sophomore Jolene Lathrop (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) in beginner walk-trot-canter; freshman Jessica Lewis (Clarence, NY/Clarence) in advanced walk-trot-canter; freshman Jessica Pierce (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) in novice equitation over fences; freshman Cassandra Kronau (Catleton-on-the-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill) in beginner walk-trot-canter; sophomore Stephanie Zimicki (Lockport, NY/St. Mary’s) in intermediate equitation over fences; and sophomore Cheyenne Seymour (Elmira, NY/Thomas A. Edison) in advanced walk-trot-canter.

Other top riders for AU Saturday were: sophomore Haley Argersinger (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore), second in advanced walk-trot-canter; senior Annie Bailey (Waynesburg, PA/Waynesburg), second in advanced walk-trot-canter; junior Olivia Costich (Penfield, NY/Harley School), second in open equitation over fences; sophomore Caitlin Hughes (North Chittenden, VT/Proctor), second in novice equitation on the flat; freshman Melanie Klein (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd), second in beginner walk-trot-canter; senior Stephanie Mistark (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), second in walk-trot; Pierce, second in novice equitation on the flat; freshman Sterling Campbell (Glen Mills, PA/Unionville), third in novice equitation on the flat and intermediate equitation over fences;

AU riders who took first place in Sunday’s show were: junior Alexandra Gerbec (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) in advanced walk-trot-canter; Mistark in walk-trot; sophomore Brittany Green (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) in intermediate equitation over fences; and sophomore Rachel Rogers (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) in beginner walk-trot-canter.

Other top riders for Alfred on Sunday were: freshman Kaitlyn Adams (Andover, NY/Andover), second in walk-trot; sophomore Matt Chabot (Utica, NY/Notre Dame), second in novice equitation over fences; sophomore Shannon Dalton (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), second in walk-trot; senior Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield), second in advanced walk-trot-canter; Emily Schell (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy), second in novice equitation on the flat; Zimicki, second in intermediate equitation over fences and intermediate equitation on the flat; Costich, third in open equitation on the flat; Green, third in novice equitation on the flat; freshman Elisa Hammell (Northport, NY/Northport), third in beginner walk-trot-canter; and freshman Alicia Mayville (Canastota, NY/Canastota), third in novice equitation on the flat.

Bailey and Gerbec, in advanced walk-trot-canter, and Mistark, in walk-trot, qualified for the Zone II, Region I championships, March 8 at the Alfred University Equestrian Center.

The AU hunt seat team is in action next on Sunday, Nov. 17, in Ithaca, NY, at a show hosted by Cornell University.
