Saxons' Johnson earns ECAC football honors
ALFRED, NY —Tyler Johnson (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa), a freshman quarterback on the Alfred University football team, has been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northwest Offensive Player of the Week.
Johnson, who was honored for his play in the Saxons’ 48-31 victory over visiting Utica College on Saturday, Nov. 9, adds the ECAC citation to the Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors he was given earlier this week.
In the win over Utica, Alfred’s fourth straight, Johnson completed 78 percent of his throws (19 of 25) for 342 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson, who had touchdown passes of 43 and 35 yards, also ran for 35 yards on nine carries.
Alfred plays next on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. when the Saxons wrap up their regular season at St. John Fisher in the Courage Bowl. Proceeds from the game benefit Rochester-based camp Good Days and Special Times.
