'Troubling Side of Trees' on 'view' at Bergren Forum
Paul Dingman, Alfred University (AU) visiting professor of human studies, will present “The Troubling Side of Trees” during the University’s next Bergren Forum, Thursday, Nov. 21at 12:10 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. The event is open to the public free of charge.
The presentation will explore the medieval and early modern interpretations of trees, which have historically been used as dark and frightening metaphors in literature and culture. Dingman, who earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of Rochester, will also relate this early modern idea of trees to some similar representations in today’s popular culture.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be available.
