AU swimming and diving teams sweep visiting Pitt-Bradford

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept visiting Pitt-Bradford in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Lebohner Pool. The Alfred men won 116-60 and the AU women prevailed 132-60.

   The Alfred men (2-2) got wins  in eight of nine individual events and won both relays, while the AU women (2-3) got wins in all 11 individual events (including diving) and won both relays.

   Junior David Coombes (Dansville, NY/Dansville), senior Pete Sowinski (Akron, NY/Akron) and junior Zac Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) each won two events to lead the Saxon men. Coombes won the 1,000 freestyle (10:42.41) and 200 backstroke (2:07.56); Sowinski won the 100 free (49.48) and 200 free (1:50.41); and Toth won the 400 IM (4:25.92) and 500 free (5:07.46).

   Other winners for the AU men were: junior David Luke (Ocala, FL/West Port) in the 50 free (22.26), and senior Terry Soto (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris) in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.66).

   The team of sophomore Jake Olsen (Dansville, NY/Dansville), Soto, senior Jake Giglio (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Luke won the 200 medley relay in 1:43.30, while freshman Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean), junior Joseph Rogers (Dublin, NH), sophomore Sheldon Vosburgh (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) and freshman Dave Dombrowski (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) won the 200 free relay in 1:33.78.

   Sophomore Carly Watson (Hyde Park, NY/FDR), senior Cassie Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) and junior Chrissy Behr (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) each won two events for the Saxon women. Watson won the 400 IM (4:55.49) and 500 free (5:37.38); Brown won 1-meter diving (223.20 points) and 3-meter diving (212.33) and Behr won the 200 free (2:04.70) and 10 free (56.41).

   Other event winners for the AU women were: freshman Faith Lanfear (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) in the 1,000 free (11:49.13), sophomore Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon) in the 50 free (25.97), freshman Sam Brown (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) in the 200 butterfly (2:31.36), freshman Dylan Staniszewski (Oakton, VA/Oakton) in the 200 backstroke (2:24.11), and freshman Kylee Proudfit (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.68).

   The team of Brown, Proudfit, freshman Leah Zimmerman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) and McRill won the 20 medley relay (2:03.91); Behr, Staniszewski, Watson and McRill won the 200 free relay (1:52.17).

   The AU men and women are in action next on Dec. 6-8 at the Ithaca Invitational.
