Performing Arts Division to present two evenings of dance
The Alfred University (AU) Performing Arts Division will host the annual fall “Informal Dance Showing” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 and Friday Dec. 6 in the Miller Performing Arts Center CD Smith Theater. Different performances and performers will be featured each evening.
The event is open to the public free of charge. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early because of limited seating.
The two shows will include performances by Composition One students, independent choreographers not attached to AU dance classes, and AU and Alfred State College dance clubs such as Dance Team, Middle Eastern Dance, and the Japanese Dance Team. There will also be choreography by AU graduate Sunny Cho ’13, the University Dance Extension Resident Artist.
The dance classes included in the performances are taught by Chase Angier, director/choreographer and associate professor of dance at AU. Angier has been director of AU’s dance program since 2002. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in dance from the University of California-Los Angeles and a master of fine arts degree in choreography from The Ohio State University.
Angier is the co-founder, along with Jennifer Salk, of the Green Mountain Dance Teachers Retreat in Woodstock, VT.
