Numerous influences impact alumna’s art
The Ester and John Clay Fine Arts Gallery at Laramie County Community College, Cheyenne, WY is displaying artwork created by Sanam Emami, AU class of 1996, through Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014. She is scheduled to attend a reception and given an artist talk on Wednesday, Feb. 13 in the gallery.
The exhibit showcases some of her tableware as well as tiles and larger pieces she has recently completed, including granitures, which are decorative table vases. Her style draws heavily from Iranian and Islamic art and architecture. Other influences for her work include Barcelona titles, Japanese textiles, and Dutch blue-and-white pottery. She said she enjoys getting these sometimes conflicting styles to work in a single piece.
This is the first time her work has been shown in Wyoming, though she has had exhibits in Montana and Colorado.
Sanam currently teaches pottery at Colorado State University, Fort Collins.
