Bergren Forum speaker to offer 'look' at 'Guiding Eyes' puppy
Casey Duncan, Alfred University (AU) Class of 2014, will present the Bergren Forum on “Guiding Eyes at Alfred” Thursday, Feb. 20 at 12:10 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Duncan, a senior sociology and political science major, will discuss the formation of the Guiding Eyes for the Blind (GEB) club at AU. She and several other students are volunteer puppy raisers for the organization, fostering and training puppies that will eventually become guide dogs for the blind. Duncan will explain the stages of raising a GEB puppy, the differences in the rules these dogs have compared to dogs kept as pets, and the struggles she and her fellow raisers encounter keeping the puppies on a college campus.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be available.
