Alumna’s creations in ‘eggstravaganza’
Lead designer at West Dearborn, MI’s Glass Academy, Michelle Plucinsky, AU class of 1993, sends news of the academy’s “glass eggstravaganza” show and sale, Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 25331 Trowbridge St., Dearborn. Live glassblowing demonstrations featuring spring glassware along with a studio gallery with solid glass eggs, nest bowls, and whimsical glass birds will be available for purchase.
Along with the decorative birds, customers will find hundreds of one-of-a-kind glass egg paperweights made exclusively for this show. “Each year we change the styles and colors of the eggs to match current trends,” said Michelle. “When these eggs are gone, they are gone. We don’t make any more of them until the 2015 season. And yes, we do plan to sell out again this year as we have a very loyal following of customers who come each year to get new colors.”
Each item at the show is individually hand sculpted using traditional glass crafting techniques and the studio’s master glassblowers will be performing live demos during the show to take custom orders both days.
A special preview party will take place the Thursday prior to the show highlighting local specialty foods and beverages in a small more intimate setting. This ticketed event invites customers to shop in a relaxed atmosphere allowing them to select the perfect colors and shapes that match their home décor prior to the weekend show. Tickets can be purchased for $50 online, in person at the studio, or by calling 313.561.4527.
The Glass Academy is a 14,000 square foot working studio used for private and public events that teach about the glass arts thru educational tours, demonstrations, and classes. The studio features a gallery, large demo space, classroom bays, and free secure parking.
