AU hosting final blood drive of academic year
Alfred University (AU) will host its final blood drive of the academic year Monday, April 28 from noon to 4 p.m. in Powell Campus Center’s Knight Club. All blood collected during the AU visit, coordinated by Community Blood Bank, will stay within Allegany and Chautauqua counties.
To make an appointment, please go to www.fourhearts.org and click “Find a Drive,” or text your preferred time to 507.789.4026.
Each week in April, five donors will be chosen by Community Blood Bank to receive tickets to Cedar Point, Waldameer, Hershey Park, Kenny Wood or Darien Lake theme parks.
Community Blood Bank is a non-profit organization dedicated to guaranteeing a safe, reliable supply of volunteer blood for patients seeking medical services in Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York. Its mission is to assist communities in the region to meet their own needs for safe, adequate blood and blood products to local hospitals, meeting or exceeding all safety and compliance requirements, at the most cost-efficient price.
The Community Blood Bank now provides about 43,000 units of blood and blood products per year saving millions of dollars and thousands of lives in our region.
Advances in medical knowledge and technology make giving blood safe. Potential donors are thoroughly screened and given a physical examination. This involves completing a health history form and having a member of the collection team check your pulse, blood pressure, temperature and hemoglobin level. Materials used in blood collection are sterile and never re-used.
