Deans' Council

The Deans' Council meets regularly with the provost to discuss and advise on matters pertaining to academic programming, issues, and policies at the University. The Deans' Council carries out established policies and regulations relating to academic affairs. Membership consists of

  • Dean of the College of Business
  • Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • Dean of the School of Art and Design
  • Dean of the Inamori School of Engineering
  • Dean of Libraries

Faculty Senate

"It is the intended purpose of the Faculty Senate to establish and maintain a working relationship between the administration and the faculty in an atmosphere of mutual respect and confidence, thereby promoting the welfare of the University."

The Faculty Senate is an elected body representing the colleges, schools, and libraries within the university. According to the Faculty Handbook,

The Faculty Senate gives the faculty formal representation in exercising its responsibilities concerning the review of the University's policies, both educational and other, as they might impact the University's mission to preserve, transmit and advance knowledge. The structure and responsibilities of the Alfred University Faculty Senate can be found in the Faculty Senate Constitution.

The Senate meets at least once a month during the academic year and must call university-wide faculty meetings at least once a semester in addition to a full faculty meeting during orientation and a full meeting prior to graduation

Faculty Councils

Each College, School, and the two Libraries is served by a council made up of elected faculty. The purpose of the Faculty Councils is to

  • represent faculty interests to the administration
  • serve as a liaison committee between faculty and administration
  • act in an advisory capacity to faculty and administration
