MostArts magic begins with international orchestra

When Alfred University’s MostArts Festival began in 2014, an improbable gathering of world-class, international musicians assembled on the stage of Miller Theater to entertain audiences with selections from the classical music canon: Beethoven’s Appassionata sonata; James Hartway’s Basho; and Liszt’s Sonata in B minor.

Sound Bites Sampler offers free chamber music and more at Nevins Theater

The MostArts Festival offers audiences a chance to get up close and personal with performances by the Festival’s international orchestra and return appearances the Festival’s Young Pianists Competition, such as 18-year-old Carey Byron, who will perform Saint-Saens’ Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22.

Carey Byron returns to Alfred University to perform in MostArts Festival

Pianist Carey Byron was 14 years old when she won the 2019 MostArts Festival’s Young Pianist Competition grand prize. With MostArts resuming this month on Alfred University’s campus, Byron, now 18, returns to perform in the opening concert, Sunday, July 23, in the Miller Theater.

Alfred Art Park to hold Grand Opening during MostArts

Coinciding with Alfred University’s 2023 MostArts Festival, the Alfred Art Park will hold its Grand Opening Monday, July 24 at 4 pm. The park has been growing since  2015, under the auspices of Professor Emeritus Glenn Zweygardt, at the corner of South Main Street and West University in the Village of Alfred. The July 24 ceremony will include a special dedication and talk by Zweygardt.

Alfred University welcomes two new members to Board of Trustees

Alfred University announces the appointments of William Rice ’78 and Dwight Gertz to the Board of Trustees, effective July 1. The Board approved their appointments at its May meeting and will welcome them as new members during its meeting in October.

Alfred University appoints dean for Student Experience

Thomas Orrange is joining Alfred University as dean for Student Experience, Amy DeKay, vice president for Student Experience, announced Thursday, June 15. His appointment became effective Monday, June 26.

Save the date: Weekend to honor former art faculty Andy Brady

An event honoring the late Andy Brady, former professor of printmaking in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design, will be held Sept. 8-10 on the Alfred University campus. Brady, who taught at Alfred in the 1970s, is one of the founders of the University’s printmaking program, one of the most innovative and renowned in the country.

Alfred University professors Scheer, Misture inducted into SUNY Distinguished Academy

Two Alfred University faculty—Joseph Scheer, professor of print media, and Scott Misture ’90, PhD ’95, Inamori Professor of materials science and engineering—were inducted into the State University of New York’s Distinguished Academy during a ceremony Tuesday (June 20) in Albany.

Prague Quadrennial has several Alfred University connections

D. Chase Angier, professor of dance in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design + Performing Arts Division, presented a talk during the recent Prague Quadrennial, where she served as an International juror. The Prague Quadrennial was held June 8-18 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Steven Pilgrim, professor of materials science and engineering in Alfred University’s Inamori School of Engineering, participated in a panel discussion for the Smithsonian film “America’s Hidden Stories: Forged in Slavery.”

Alfred University equestrian program ranked nationally by online publication Equine Helper

Equine Helper, a website dedicated to horse owners and enthusiasts, has released its Top 10 national rankings of collegiate equestrian programs and Alfred University’s program is listed.
