Alfred University names Jean Cardinale associate provost of Curriculum, Learning Assessment, and Accreditation

Jean Cardinale, longtime professor of biology at Alfred University, who recently led efforts to create pathways for students to earn multidisciplinary double majors, has been appointed the University’s first-ever associate provost of Curriculum, Learning Assessment, and Accreditation.

New York State renews contract with CACT; David Gottfried promoted to director

The Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) at Alfred University has been renewed for four years with a new $5 million contract from New York State, Gabrielle Gaustad ’04, dean of the Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University has announced. In addition, Gaustad said David Gottfried has been promoted to director of the CACT, effective July 1.

Dr. John Simmins to lead Alfred University GE Vernova Advanced Power Grid Lab

Alfred University alumnus John Simmins ’84, PhD ’90, longtime director of Alfred University’s Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) has been tapped to lead the University’s new GE Vernova Advanced Power Grid Lab.

Jessie Thoman has been appointed Alfred University’s first-ever associate dean of the Division of Performing Arts. She began her duties on Monday, July 8.

Claire Kovacs, curator of Binghamton University Art Museum, appointed director of galleries for NYSCC at Alfred University

ALFRED, NY – The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University recently announced the appointment of Claire Kovacs as director of the School of Art and Design Galleries, the Paul Vickers Gardner Glass Center, and the Kyocera Museum of Fine Ceramics.

Alfred University to host short course on machine vision

Alfred University’s Inamori School of Engineering will host a short course in September that will train students and faculty on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to identify and assess damage to electrical power systems. Students completing the course will increase their internship opportunities and become more attractive to employers in the electric utility sector.
