Your SUNY Funding Options

Did you know that, as an Alfred University student, you have the unique potential to secure funding from several different sources? That’s because we are one of only two schools in New York State that can participate in the Excelsior Scholarship, the NYS STEM Incentive Program, and the Enhanced Tuition Assistance Program—along with our own institutional aid.

We encourage you to apply for funding through all available avenues. Check out the options below!

The NYS Stem Incentive Program provides tuition awards to students who are New York State residents attending a public or private degree-granting college or university located in New York State. Recipients must be in the top 10% of students in their high school graduating class, pursue an approved, two or four-year STEM degree and agree to live in NYS and work in a science, technology, engineering or math field in NYS for five years after graduation.

The STEM eligible majors at Alfred University include: Biomaterials Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Glass Engineering Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Biology, Mathematics, Math with Actuarial Science, General Science, Chemistry, Geology and Physics.

Stem funding is the tuition of $7,070 at a SUNY State-operated college less any TAP award.

Students enrolled in the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Performing Arts programs and mechanical and renewable energy engineering majors may apply for Enhanced Tuition Assistance eligibility through the Higher Education Services Corporation.

After other sources of aid are factored in, the maximum award jointly paid by the state and the university is $6,000 with $3,000 coming from NYS.

Qualifying students enrolled in the New York State College of Ceramics in either the School of Art and Design or a materials-based engineering program—Biomaterials Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Glass Engineering Science, and Materials Science and Engineering—may apply for the Excelsior Scholarship through the Higher Education Services Corporation.

Those students who receive funding may be awarded up to $5,500 depending on what other sources of aid they've received. The Excelsior Scholarship is only awarded if all other grants and scholarships received are less than the tuition of $7,070 at a SUNY State-operated college.

In addition to the supported options, we also offer institutional aid. No matter what your family’s income range may be, we hope you will apply for our grants and scholarships to help offset your tuition even further.

From our beginnings almost 200 years ago, Alfred University has always believed in, and nurtured, an inclusive environment. That philosophy extends to our enduring commitment to making our high-quality education accessible to all students who show promise.
